Work in field of literacy : V-Excel is committed to education of individuals with intellectual disabilities (Autism, Dyslexia,…) since 2002. To develop literacy skills, we work on gross-fine motor skills, auditory-visual perception, concentration, comprehension, memory, eye-hand coordination, and encoding-decoding. It is an uphill journey for teachers as each child is unique. The Waldorf curriculum we follow scientifically addresses the needs of the growing child, and facilitates transition into literacy through unconventionally taught reading and writing. The holistic teaching method includes movement and gestures, rhythmic clapping and stamping, artwork, free drawing, songs and chants, painting and modelling, speech and drama. With these inputs our young children can now: 1. Pick up words and sentences of the story 2. Express through their drawings 3. Comprehend and answer simple questions 5. Sequence sentence strips while retelling the story. We see that their literacy skills have grown exponentially.

Social Impact : All children, including special children, have right to education. Ensuring literacy and teaching functional academics to them is complex, but critical get by independently in life. We train them on time, money, measurement concepts besides practical skills like telling their name/address/number, identifying road signs, reading bus numbers, menu cards, recognizing products/brands etc. It demonstrates their abilities, builds their confidence, and facilitates social inclusion. V-Excel has positively impacted over 40,000 persons (urban and rural reach), helping ease the immense psychological, behavioural, financial and social pressure families with a special child face. We hope to develop a more sensitive and inclusive society. We spread awareness of education through radio, television, press, and workshops. Our centres include Chennai, Erode, Tirunelveli, Srirangam, Nashik and Solapur. We have served 680 villages of Villipuram for 10 years under Government’s Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.
