Work in field of literacy : Shamalbhai started this mission before 5 years. Born in a family of farm laborers & driving an auto rickshaw for a living, Shamalbhai in the course of his work came across slum children, who, instead of attending a school were busy taking care of their siblings or belongings while their parents worked for earning. They couldn’t attend school/aanganwadis which were away from their home as they themselves had responsibilities. Motivated to provide these children with their right to education & better living, Shamalbhai purchased basic necessities for starting a class from his meager earnings & spared time from his working hours to teach cleanliness, neatness, discipline, , personal hygiene etc. As the numbers increased he approached Rotary Club of Himmatnagar & together managed to prepare a shed with cement flouring & a good roof top for teaching, teachers are also appointed with the help of local government, nutritious food & other necessities are being jointly met since 2014.

No of Beneficiaries : 80

Social Impact : In India a HUGE number of people live in slums, so such acts of serving the society can have a big impact on the economy of the country. Educating the culturally deprived children increases their capacity to learn, reduces crime level, improves their living standards, reduces health issues among the poor, these children get their basic right of education & results in turning them into productive and responsible future citizens. An act of dedication, kindness & sacrifice by a person who himself is economical backward but working for the upliftment of totally deprived children is truly commendable and inspiring for other sections of the society to follow.

Fund Outlay : 5,00,000/-

The challenge of arranging funds is being met : Shamalbhai himself spends whatever he could, receives donations from local people & Rotary Club of Himatnagar provides nutritious snacks and fulfills other necessities. recently Rotary club provided a shed with cemented flour & a good roof top.

This Award is going to impact the work in future : It will not only be a true recognition of selfless service to the society but will be very helpful in educating and spreading awareness amongst the slum areas which is the grass root level for bringing a change and equality in the society.
