Work in field of literacy : Avilash believes that literacy is the most effective tool for bringing up creative human life. Reports show that we have more than 200 million people who need the right type of education in India. At Avilash all our programs are aimed at grooming underprivileged children through imparting value based education and necessary skills in preparing them for a decent livelihood on one hand and ensuring a happy and meaningful childhood on the other. For the last 26 years, Avilash has worked consistently towards such holistic development of children who are highly vulnerable to exploitation, victimization and trafficking those include orphans, street children, abandoned children, and extremely impoverished children from remote tribal areas in West Bengal. Presently Avilash runs five educational programs out of which ’Dip Children’s Campus is a residential program that houses 160 children from ultra-poor families in Malandighi located near Durgapur Steel City in its sprawling five acres campus

No of Beneficiaries : 470

Social Impact : In India, data analyzed from the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) also shows that 13 out of every 100 persons who did not attend school or dropped out, did so because they never considered education “necessary.” This trend is prevailing more among rural students where 34.8% of drop outs (including those who have never attended school). In a national level survey this section has directly expressed their indifference towards school education. For the last two decades we have been successful in bridging this specific gap through providing extra educational support to students belonging to economically challenged sections of the society through both our residential and non-residential programs.

Fund Outlay : 90

The challenge of arranging funds is being met : Fund Raising has always been one of the most significant aspects for us in order to sustain our programs for the last twenty-six years. Since most of the support we receive are either one time support or time bound support, we have to plan in advance all the time for the sustainability of the programs. Even by the end of this current financial year the commitment period is coming to an end for one of our partner agencies and hence we have been continuously organizing campaigns for approaching individual donors as well as institutions and agencies/ organizations. So far, most of our funds have come from individual sponsors both from inside the country and outside India. In the past we did approach quite a few funding agencies and we are immensely glad to say that we have received positive responses from some of them. Beside we have also received government sponsorships specifically for one of our projects located in Diamond Harbour for our ongoing crèche programs in Diamond Harbour. Last but not the least we are immensely thankful to our local sponsors from in and around the steel city of Durgapur, who have come forward several times and extended their helping hand specifically in periods of deep financial crises.

This Award is going to impact the work in future : Every award serves as a mode of renewal for our enthusiasm and our organizational spirit of striving against all odds towards a better tomorrow. Thus an award definitely means a lot more to us. It’s a through recognition of our participation in the struggle of the marginalized and vulnerable sections of the society and above all a token of appreciation towards our dedication in building a little better world. Thus receiving the award would likely to raise our credibility to a larger extent which in turn may pave way for more people sharing the same vision to step forward and join hands with us in near future.
