Work in field of literacy : Interactive reading & storytelling sessions in govt primary schools was how ILP Hyderabad started its journey of transformation of education in govt. schools in Serlingampally Mandal. From 2006 till now ILP Hyderabad has launched several initiatives that cover various aspects all aligned to the same ultimate goal – Quality Education in Govt. Schools. Igniting interest in reading, honing reading skills, and inculcating a love of books through Pustakam, addressing access to books through in-school and mobile libraries, upskilling teachers through teacher training workshops, going beyond class curriculum in summer camps (yoga, dance, art, sports, field trips), using multimedia teaching aids, experiential learning through science kits and MDLS, and guiding the future path through Counselling and Mentoring, as the various projects through which ILP Hyderabad has touched the whole continuum towards a quality education experience in 25 govt schools from primary to upper primary to high scho

No of Beneficiaries : 14000

Social Impact : In first year our Pustakam project covered 95 children. Today across our projects we are reaching 14000 children. Encouraged by the improvement they see, many parents have opted to continue their children in the govt. schools, instead of moving them to other schools at great financial burden to the family. If govt. schools can impart quality education, it will mititage the problem of unaffordable private school education for majority Indians. We are happy to note that – Pustakam coverage increased from 95 to 880, scholarship from 5 to 35, Mentoring from 15 to 2000 studnets, and overall schools increased from 1 to 25.Even more heartening is the community involvement and their recognition that good education of their children is their right and their own important role.Examples: Keshavnagar community came forward to fund additional teacher; Kokapet community lobbied for extra class in school (8th std), so that girl children do not drop out after 7th.

This Award is going to impact the work in future : This prestigious award will bring lot of visibility and recognition to the work being done by ILP Hyderabad. More importantly it will go a long way in raising awareness of this issue and the enormous challenge that India still faces in terms of illiteracy and education. Nearly 3,00,000 villages still have literacy levels below 75%. Such an award will bring positive spotlight on this issue and inspire others to join hands with us, and help us make faster progress in realizing our vision of a 100% literate India. Being a national level platform, the recognition will spur people to start chapters in other cities also. As a secondary benefit the cash component of the award can meet the operational expenses of a mobile library for 6 months or support a 10-day summer camp for govt. school children or career counselling for 700 youth.
