Work in field of literacy : With a qualification in special education from Delhi University in 2003, I began my work with a Delhi based NGO, AADI, followed by an assignment at DISHA JAIPUR. The culmination of over a decade working in the field was the setting up in Jan 2015 of my own institution under the banner of Learning Aspiration at Jaipur to address the area of Learning Disability which affects a large part of the school going population, but an area in which very little has been done so far. It is my effort to focus on providing an accessible, affordable, enjoyable, quality environment to inculcate a love for learning through more creative methods. We reach out to students facing multiple learning challenges who are in need of regular one-on-one intense training by trained professionals. This is targeted through an academic intervention via our centre based after school programs after identifying the areas of difficulty. We Counsel parents to understand the potential and limitations of the child.

No of Beneficiaries : 2000 - 2500 families in last 13 years

Social Impact : The census of 2011 has put the figure of people with one or the other form of disability at 2.1% of the population which translates to roughly 2.5 crore individuals. As per WHO 14% -15% of school going population is having one or the other kind of learning disability. In contrast, the services and facilities are highly inadequate and available to only 1% of these individuals, i.e., roughly 2.5 lakh individuals. A lot needs to be done to create awareness, provide training and deliver the services at the ground level. My work impacts all these levels of interaction, beginning with the counselling of parents and extended family training to teachers to be able to identify and understand the various disabilities, in turn impacting the lives of these individuals with special needs.

Fund Outlay : 10-15 Lac Annual

The challenge of arranging funds is being met : Through Service charges and Fund Raising activities

This Award is going to impact the work in future : This award gives recognition to my work on a larger level, which enables me to reach more and more people in need of help. The learning disability sector is in need of a large number of professionals, but lacks educated and trained personnel to carry out the work. This recognition for the work in this field on such a platform would draw the attention of the younger generation to the possibilities and more people would likely consider taking this up as a profession. The main stakeholders, namely the families of children with disabilities would be encouraged to take up an active role in this field. But above all, the award would help me in improving the infrastructure and manpower strength to reach out to more people in a shorter period of time, thereby providing the much needed assistance to individuals and families in need of this special service.
