Work in field of literacy : Sarada Vidyalayam, educating thousands of children from the four villages - Thimmapuram, Thammavaram, Penumarthi and Kothuru, in rural Kakinada. Established in 1992, with Grade 1 and 25 children. Now, teaches LKG to Grade 10, with a total of around 2339 children as alumni till 2016-2017.
No of Beneficiaries : 2339 children
Social Impact : Sarada Vidyalayam started with only 25 children in Grade 1, with just one teacher. The school grew over the years, slowly, from primary school to high school, offering free education, lunch, uniforms and transport to the children. To her and the school’s credit, the school sent out 2339 children till the current year, 2016-2017. The school branched into English Medium at the primary level in 2016-2017, aiming to create more sustainable and relevant opportunities for the children.
It is incredible to note that around 60% of these children are girls and the drop-out rate is near zero. Many of the alumni have come back to work in the hospital that is associated with the school. The school, it’s education methods and engagement with the parents have all greatly reduced child labour and early marriages of girl children. Most girl children from this school have set out to complete high school and work as well.

The challenge of arranging funds is being met : Largely funded by Manjari Sankurathri Memorial Foundation, Canada
This Award is going to impact the work in future : The aim of this nomination is to put Sarada Vidyalayam on a bigger spectrum and thereby attracting more opportunities and resources for our children. It will enable us to enrol and educate more children from these villages and even farther.
