Work in field of literacy : On the 8th March , International Women’s Day ,an extremely remote village Phangane,95 km from Mumbai with a strength of 400 people, took its steps towards adult literacy. The village today has a unique classroom which has the country’s oldest pupils aged between 60-80+ . Although the class is designed for aajis between 60 and 90, the ones in their late 80s far outweigh the others. Many don’t have birth records, but family documents and photo albums indicate their advancing years. Aajibainchi Shala overcomes age-related physical handicaps by factoring in the wisdom and vocabulary that come with age. As most aajis have boisterous voices and a good command over the poetry of Maharashtra’s saints, they incorporate these in their formal learning

Social Impact : Aajibainchi Shala has currently a strength of 28 students the average age from 60-80+ . Here the physical handicap is overcome by factoring in the wisdom and vocabulary that come with age. They have incorporated the culture and poetry of Maharashtra’s saints into formal learning. Focusing on poetic metre of Varkari saints which women traditionally sing while doing household chores, aajis are urged to narrate Tukaramgatha or Chokhamela poems. The school is trying to teach oral knowledge through a classroom prism, credit for which is due to Bangar, who hails from Murbad with his mission of ‘Adult and Continuing Education’
