Work in field of literacy : Palghar, a district located at a distance of about 100 Km towards the north of Mumbai, came into existence on the 1st August 2014. Ankur, an intervention by QUEST in collaboration with the Wada 1 ICDS project of the Palghar district, works towards strengthening ECE in all the 110 Anganwadies of the project. Each stage involves two days input in a workshop mode, followed by a rigorous onsite support. The Anganwadi workers are given a clear idea of the change that is expected at the end of each stage.Input is provided at all levels of the ICDS project from workers to the project officer.

No of Beneficiaries : 3000

Social Impact : Ankur aims at all-round development of the child with a special focus on early literacy and numeracy using emergent literacy approach. The home languages of the children from the area is different than the school language. Hence the workers are given an orientation on the importance of accepting & respecting the home language of the child in the Anganwadies. Efforts are made to construct a bridge between the home & the school Language. The field data shows encouraging results. The children under intervention show better school readiness as compared to the children in neighbouring non-intervention Anganwadies.
